I'm Souma Basu.

Technology has been a constant thread through my life, but what interests me most has never been the technology itself. It's what technology can do: solve real business problems and make people's work easier. For the past 15 years, I've worked at that intersection, helping organizations modernize operations, deliver large-scale transformation programs, and adopt emerging technologies in practical, measurable ways.

That work has taken me across insurance, banking, capital markets, and financial services, partnering with business executives, technology leaders, and delivery teams on everything from enterprise platform modernization to AI and digital transformation. Every engagement has reinforced the same belief: technology creates value only when it's aligned with business goals and implemented with people in mind.

Artificial intelligence is the most exciting part of my work today. I'm drawn to how it can sharpen decision-making, simplify complex processes, and create better experiences for businesses and their customers. But I also believe innovation has to be practical and responsible, focused on solving genuine problems rather than chasing the latest trend.

I currently serve as Senior Director of Insurance at Sutherland Global Services, where I help insurers apply AI and emerging technologies in ways that streamline operations, improve outcomes, and maximize the return on their technology investments. I'm also a Director on the NAIFA Chicagoland AI Council and a Senior Member of IEEE, where I get to collaborate with industry peers on where technology and insurance go next.

I was born and raised in Kolkata, India, where my curiosity for technology and problem-solving first took root. I earned my Bachelor's in Computer Science and Engineering, then completed an MBA at Symbiosis International University in Pune. Together, those experiences gave me the technical foundation and the business perspective that still shape how I work. Over the years, I've worked with organizations across countries, cultures, and industries, and I've found that the principles behind successful transformation are remarkably consistent: understand the business, build trust, simplify complexity, and never lose sight of the people who ultimately use the technology.

My family and I now call California home. Away from work, you'll usually find me reading about emerging technologies, following the financial markets, mentoring professionals, or spending time with my wife and son. I also love meeting people from different backgrounds, hearing their stories, and learning from perspectives that challenge my own.
